Classical GuitarsYou want to rock out like Jimmy Page? Learning to play the guitar like a rocker means you need to start with the basics and work your way up to the electric guitar. Classical guitars are the starting point for every great guitar player, even if they never pick one up again. To make sure that your guitar education is going to help you become the best possible, you need to learn more about what you’re playing and why that even matters. The Structure of a Classic GuitarWhile everyone has different ideas about what a classic guitar might be, there are a few accepted guidelines:
Pretty simple, right? But with this basic structure guitar, you can play everything from "Stairway to Heaven" to "Black Dog." Well, you might be able to, with a lot of practice under your belt. Learning to Play GuitarYou will want to begin to learn to play a classical guitar by taking lessons. Sure, you can learn how to play a guitar as well by watching videos online or by reading books from your local music shop, but nothing can take the place of actually sitting with another person and working out how you are moving your fingers and how you are putting the songs together. Taking lessons at least twice a week will provide a good base for your guitar skills and it will offer you the opportunity to ask questions of the person who is teaching you these skills. But you can’t just sit in the lesson and hope to learn it all. You also need to practice. Practicing on a Classical GuitarWhen you are learning to play guitar, you will need to devote a bit of time to practicing. In addition to playing the pieces that your guitar teacher wants you to learn, you will also want to practice the individual chords so they become second nature. The ideal way to practice is to spend at least a half an hour a day with your guitar, helping to create muscle memory and stronger fingers to play. It will hurt at first to play the guitar and hold down those chords at first. But the more you do it, the easier it becomes. Choosing to learn how to play the guitar is something may people do, but it is often difficult to stick with. Playing is difficult, playing well even more so. To ensure you stay motivated, try picking up the song sheet of a favorite song and slowly learn how to play it, in addition to your lessons. Over time, you will get better and better at this song, showing yourself just how far you have come and what this means for your guitar skills. You will be a good guitar player if you keep it up; it’s only the quitting that makes you a bad guitar player – or not one at all. |
